hmm, you had some good suggestions insomniac. i'll look into GTO and infinite
ryvius. and alright mnemeth, castle in the sky and howl's moving castle are the
exceptions since i'm into steampunk. also, the suggestions i disagreed with
were:
- eureka 7
- gundam seed (i hated every mecha, except evangelion)
- trinity blood (hellsing still ranks as the #1 vampire anime for me)
- inuyasha (i hate series that are too long, except FMA)
still looking for suggestions if anyones willing to give them.
maybe someone could do sort of a anime-esque psychoanalysis of me based on the
anime i've seen:
likes: FMA, Kino's Journey, Last Exile, Evangelion, Samurai X
dislikes: naruto, bleach, miyazaki films, chrno crusade, gankutsuou
now, i'm no anime expert, and i've only seen a few series. what i do know i that
i like to get something after i'm done watching a series; be it a memory, and
emotion, or a philosophical insight. basically, i'd like a "thinking"
anime. i don't like mindless action or anything that's too artsy (ie shinkai
stuff). also, i don't like the things that get a little too weird and confusion
(ie flcl, lain). i love something with a deep story. hell, i might even try a
little humor if there's anything good out there.
hmm..let's see. i didn't like chrno crusade (story wasn't deep enough for me).
also, i thought fate/stay was dull. and for flcl, it was just too weird for me.
death note is a good suggestion (i love the manga).
based on this, does anybody have any more suggestions?
hey, so far i've absolutely fell in love with FMA, Kino's Journey, and Last
Exile. now, i don't have alot of money and need to make a wise decision as to
the next series i'm going to put my hard earned cash into. any suggestions?
you know that upside train from cowboy bebop:the movie? well, does anybody know
if there's an actual train like that, or where the inspiration came
from?
the whole "this is the form of me in shinji's mind" kinda reminds me
of how much in this world is base on the INDIVIDUAL'S perspective on things.
That is, questions like what is real, or if God exists are mainly things that
people have been questioning for thousands of years simply because there is no
proof or evidence. even, with physical proff to the "eternal"
questions, people will still be subjective and create realities only suited to
themselves.

i was thinking...how does the shizo, avoidant, etc...personality types go
again...and to which characters?
eh..i'm still pretty convinced that Asuka is BOTH eros and thanatos...mainly
because if she is truly the "id," then she must have both of those
basic, instinctual desires and drives (sex & aggression). Yeah, rei may SEEM
aggressive through her EVA skills, but she is, in fact, simply following orders
(thus, the society/order-compliant superego).
and for Kaworu and Shinji...i'm haven't really thought about them, but i think
that Kaworu could represent Shinji's "ideal self," or the type of
person Shinji wishes to be. However, Shinji's current state is his "true
self." and since his true self and ideal self are not one in the same,
there is conflict within him(shinji).
in the end, after he's killed his "ideal self," Ikari rejects the
unified LCL-type world and decides to live with his anxiety-ridden, true
self...hmm...i'm still trying to figure out how to connect this with Asuka's
infamous last lines...
furthermore, can someone tell me whether or not Shnji really WAS anxiety-ridden
in the end? or was he happy to be alone with his id?
thanatos is the "death instinct" whereas Eros is the "sex
instinct"...hmm...that doesn't really make sense to me. i thought that
Asuka might be both Eros & Thanatos because (since she is the id) she should
have all of the qualities of Freud's Pleasure Principle: Aggression(see her in
Death&Rebirth) and Sex(tension between her and Shinji).

Maybe Shinji had an Oedipus complex. Yeah, Rei was like his mother. he liked
rei. plus he hated his father, Gendo. therefore, Rei=superego=parent=mother in
Oedipal complex
hi everyone. i'm currently taking a personality psychology course right now and
alot of eva, eva, eva, has been popping into my head lately. the class is just
finished discussing freud and jung last week and found alot of interesting
connections. for example:
1) (one all the hardcore fans know) asuka, shinji, & rei represent id, ego,
superego
- explains the scene where ikari jacked off to a comatose asuka
- explains the scene where rei reminded shinji of a mother (since superego akin
to a
parent)
- explains why Ikari is so ****ed up most of the time since he is conflicted by
the
opposites of a sexual/aggressive id, and the authoritative superego
- explains all those defense mechanisms that Ikari uses (ie withdrawl)
2) LCL represents Jung's collective unconscious
- all life is unified into one
...i had a bunch of other interesting stuff on mind too, but i'll get back to
you on them
anyways, does anybody have any opinions on what Gendo, Misato, or Ritsuko
represent?

oh yeah, i forget about the elevator scene with Asuka and Rei...they're the
tension between the id and superego
hmmm...oh, yeah and I don't think Shinji dies, i think he just decides NOT to
join the collective unconscious and would rather stay with his primitive desires
(thus, Asuka)...plus i really don't agree on the whole Adam and Eve
thing.

one more thing, Rei(the superego that restricts the ego) is the one closest to
society and its rules...therefore, Rei also joins the collective
unconsciousness.
I think shinji's ultimate decision was to become either an angel or a beast. the
former pertaining to collecive unconscious and the latter pertaining to
animalistic desires(as displayed by EVA 01)...he ultimately chose the
latter.

rei can also be seen as the closest to humanity and society because she is all
about DUTY; Asuka, on the other hand, is all about..well..herself.
I detest myspace. all it is is a bunch of eager teens trying to kill some time
by thinking that they are making friends. they're really just making
aquaintances that they can chat with online and talk about all the banality and
bs that usually goes on around chat rooms. yeah, sure you can get a kick out of
it but come on! i've seen people in their mid-30s playin around like their
high-schoolers. give me a break. who made myspace anyways. it's kinda getting
outta hand to tell you the truth. i've only tried it for a week then cancelled
my account. i mean, who gives a %$*% about what the goth girl's favorite movies
are?!
hey, i hear that the February edition of Newtype listed the 9 hottest guys &
gals of 2006. i haven't gotten around to reading it yet, does anybody know who
they are?
i suppose, then, that humanity is marred with uncertainty. there is nothing true
or untrue. the chances that we should live are akin to the chances that we
shouldn't live. nevertheless, i can't help but think that such confusion
warrants the absurd. and if our lives truly are meaningless, then no one can
possibly say that people relinquishing themselves is truly a sin..
if its so pointless, why is the world holding on to this piece of refuse we call
"life?" are we just fooling ourselves? tricking ourselves into
thinking that something will eventually turn out for the better when in
actuality, it won't? is our struggle to life simply another proof of our human
stupidity?
Quote by ShamshielLife is completely
meaningless by itself, the only meaning in life is the one people give
it.
you say that our actions give us meaning. yet is that so-called
"meaning" simply another way of fooling ourselves? into giving us just
one more reason as to why all of us shouldn't be succumbing to self-slaughter?
God, life is meaningless. i'm so young yet i feel like i've lived for such a
long time. depression sets in every waking day. and if not, anxiety would take
its place. should i simply lose hope and just lose myself. perhaps i should.
i've contemplated the notion of death once. actually, several times. it's
beginning to become quite a nuisance. i apologize for opening the window to my
sorrows, but sometimes a man can't hold it to himself. it's human nature to just
burst out and rant of all the miseries one has suffered despite the fact that
people only care about themselves and simple wish to clasp their ears and remain
deaf to the screams of a desperate kin. why am i as such? what am i supposed to
do? we all tackle these things don't we? obviously one of us has the answer to
melancholy, right? anxiety, i suppose, is the most "human" of
emotions. despair and grief also tend to tag along. i'm sorry for expressing
myself. especially a topic that many fear to encounter. i just wish that someone
would have a cure...
the world created for us, huh? i doubt it. humans are merely rational animals.
in fact, we are the only animals that are able to question our existence, thus
enabling us say we have meaning and allowing us to claim that we are so damn
special. however, we are NOT superior to anything! we are equal to the very ants
we step on. we are not all high and mighty simply because we say so! the only
reason we can say that and all agree is because no other species can refute us.
we hide behind our science and technology and claim that we are closer to God
than anyone else! how arrogant of us. such hubris might as well send us to our
graves. we are not as special as we think. perhaps we were even an accident.
perhaps this world was not meant for us at all. we, the most flawed creature on
the planet...
the MAJORITY of humans are disgusting, miserable things. all we do is wallow in
sin. every street corner we can witness a sin in progress. gluttony at any fast
food restaurant. lust in practically anything on tv or on the internet. greed in
every solicitor or businessman. sloth in every american on a la-z-boy watching
tv. wrath in both war and in every failed relationship. pride in every
competitive sport or profession(not to mention women who emulate runway models).
and envy in our very selves; in that we want whatever anybody else has.
Everything we do is wrong. and i believe that many humans are akin to refuse.
HOwever, i do not condescend all people. there are actually some genuinelly good
people out there. there is also beauty in this world (just look at MT). what the
world must realize is that we must enhance that beauty and not leave it buried
beneath the sins we commit.
Life. Death. And everything between. does anything we do have meaning? so far,
parents, school, media, and society itself tells the individual that life is
meaningful and that we must not lose hope. yet what about those of us who did?
is making suicide illegal simply an attempt to prevent people from killing
themselves, thus preserving the imperfect humanity we have? Is the truth behind
truths the idea that life is ultimately meaningless? even some literature state
that it is; existentialists such as Camus, Kafka, and Nietzche claim that life
is absurd. yet the majority of society labels this point of view
"wrong." What if the awful truth is that THEY are WRONG. that is,
trying to fool yourself into thinking that there is something to live for is not
unlike fooling yourself into thinking that night is day. well, who knows, I
could be the one who is wrong. oh gosh, humans are such fallible creatures.
please tell me what you think. my intent is not to depress the MT community, but
rather to see what they think is true and what is false.

it was all chained up and stuff..i didn't really get that character design...
